Drywall Ceilings with Lighting Coves
A drywall ceiling can do more than sit flat overhead. It can hide AC ducts, make room for hidden lighting and recessed lights, and mark out an area such as a dining corner or kitchen. Arka plans and builds designed drywall ceilings across the center and south, from Rishon LeZion to Be'er Sheva.
What the job covers
- A perimeter cove with room for a hidden light strip
- A drywall box around air conditioning ducts
- Openings for recessed lights at positions marked in advance
- A frame or step in the ceiling over a dining area or kitchen
- A hidden pocket for a curtain track
- An access panel in front of the AC unit
- Tape, joint compound and sanding until the ceiling is ready for paint
Good to know
A drywall ceiling starts with a lighting plan. Before anything is built, decide where the recessed lights go, where a hidden LED strip runs, and where a pendant hangs over the table. Each one changes the shape of the ceiling and where the openings are cut. On the visit we sketch the ceiling together on the floor and mark the points before the frame goes up.
If the apartment has ducted air conditioning, the ceiling is built around it. The ducts run inside a drywall box, and an access panel is left in front of the unit itself so filters can be cleaned and the unit serviced without taking the ceiling apart. The positions of the vents are coordinated with whoever installs the AC.
A designed ceiling does not have to cover the whole room. Sometimes a perimeter cove, a frame over the dining area or a single box hiding a pipe is enough. What you can prepare: photos of ceilings you liked, the measurements of the kitchen or table, and a decision on how far the ceiling can drop in each area.

Questions about Drywall ceilings
Ceiling lowering brings the whole ceiling down to a new height. A designed ceiling can be just some elements, such as a cove, a frame or a box, while the rest of the ceiling stays at its original height. We decide together on the visit what suits the room.
Through an access panel. It is planned ahead, right in front of the unit and large enough to work on it. The panel is painted with the ceiling and opens when filters need cleaning or the unit needs checking.
Before the ceiling is closed with boards. Once the drywall is up, moving a light means cutting, patching and repainting. So the lighting plan is agreed at the planning stage, together with the shape of the ceiling.
